Role Models

Two people who are role models to me and to many others out there are Megan Rapinoe and Christen Press. Both of these women are helping to change the narrative and society for the better. Megan Rapinoe is an American soccer player who plays on the USA Women’s National Team and on the Ol Reign team for Seattle. Besides being a two time World Cup Champion and a gold medalist, she is also a social/ radical justice activist along with being an advocate for LGBTQ rights and gender equality. Christen Press is also an American soccer player who plays on the USA Women’s National Team and on Angel City FC for LA. She is also a two time World Cup Champion and a gold medalist, along with being an advocate for LGBTQ rights and gender equality. Both of these women were a part of the lawsuit against the US Soccer Federations to fight for equal pay. After the lawsuit reached a settlement, part of the deal was that their pay would be increased and the federation also promised at future events there would be equal pay for men and women. Lastly, Megan and Christen along with two of the fellow teammates run a company called Re-inc where their goal is to boldly reimagine the status quo. With their company they have been able to create a growing community fighting for progress and equity along with their eco-conscious fashion and creative goods. One thing from each of their lives that they share that I would like to emulate in my life is to use the platform I have, whether it’s social media or just me talking to other people, to promote gender equality and advocate for the rights of the LGBTQ community more than I do now. I am an ally and many of my close friends and family members are a part of the LGBTQ community. I support them but maybe I can use my platform to show how much I support them and others too. If I had to do something different from them maybe I could create a non-profit organization that help the LGBTQ community and gender equality and the money raised will be donate to other charities that support those two things
